Scott Rosenbaum: I am grateful to be doing what I love
We met American director Scott Rosenbaum on Zlín Film Festival decade ago, where he screened in premiere his movie Perfect Age of Rock´n´Roll. Since that time, we kept in touch and because he made some interesting documents, we felt it´s time to look back and speak about progress in his career.
Paul Newman: Real film star and human being
We had many reasons why we decided to make this tribute article about legendary film actor Paul Newman. This year he would have celebrated 95th birthday (was born on 26.1.1925) and as it is written in his biography, he was a man of his era which spanned from WWII up to times of digital films. His career has lasted for over half a century, and he was ever present in film studio, theatre seminars and racing tracks. Everything he did, he did at 100 % and genuinely. When he made a film, he concentrated at his role, when he was racing, he wanted to be the fastest and to win, when he set up his business he dedicated all profits for charity and gave away over 400 million dollars. He was determined, courageous, humble, compassionate and fair. He was real man, who called spade a spade and stood by his opinion which he wasn´t scarred to voice loudly. He was REAL film star, idol of many generations. World laid by his feet but he took only very tiny bit for himself and gave back much more. We want to offer comparition between him and current generation of actors, who are made stars by media after two financially successful films and they don´t know what to do with money, spend them on many luxurious mansions and cars. They say their opinion but are willing to void it and appologise if it could endanger their career in current political correct era. Some of them don´t know if they feel like man or woman and that is why Academy is said to void category „actor“ and „actress“ and replace it by unisex „performer“. Newman didn´t like ostentatious behavior and missed many Academy Awards ceremonies and rather went racing or watched TV at home.
Slávek Horák: For me creating and writing is the happiest spell in whole process of making the film
Czech film director Slávek Horák was born on 12.1.1975 in Gottwaldov. After finishing secondary school he attended local Film school and was accepted onto FAMU (Prague based Film Academy) which he didn´t finish due to being very busy with filming the commercials. As director´s assistant he helped Jan Svěrák film famous Kolja film. He became publicly known for his movie Home Care which was very successful home and abroad. This year he brought into cinemas his second feature film called Havel which had it´s premiere at Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště. It was there where we firstly met him and were spellbound by his friendly attitude, charisma and effort, so we immediatelly asked him for interview.
David Kinsella: I want to make people smile
David Kinsella is acclaimed photographer and director. He hails from Belfast and lived and worked in Norway for past 30 years. Now he is back in Belfast creating fantasy world. He bought derelict original houses of Titanic shipyard workers, built between 1860-1910 and turned them into interactive world of romance and fairy-tale. He created something unique, which isn´t anywhere in the world.
Michael J. Fox: Honest confession of Hollywood star
Canadian actor Michael J. Fox was born on 9. 6.
He wrote a biography Lucky man-Memoirs where he honestly disclosed not only his fight with illness but also the life of an actor at uneasy start, on top-having celebrity status, and then facing the tought decision-what next?
Interview with Michael wasn´t on the cards so we used the extracts from his book published in Czech Republic in 2012. We admired how Michael could put a mirror to the tough life in Hollywood, show it´s false morale and admit how tought it was to return to reality with help of his loving and beloved wife Tracy.
Film industry is brutal business and in America it is twice as hard and God knows, why tens of thousands of people want to get into it.Only handful of them get on top, and they are those hard working people who made the film, which became a hit, were at the right place at right time and had that piece of luck. Miloš Forman, Ivan Passer, Dustin Hoffman or Gene Hackman had tough beginnings when they were hungry and were skint. Also Michael J. Fox suffered that hardship and also feelings of contempt, humble and uncertainty.
