English actor Roger Moore was born in London on 14.10.1927. Since early childhood he showed artistic skill and at the age of 15 thanks to his father he was employed as a drawer by company making films in Soho. Slowly he entered the world of theatre and film far from meteoric rise, but slow, steady and hard work. In Czechoslovakia we probably could have seen him firstly in TV series Ivanhoe (1957) which was showed on out TV in early 70´s.Although he made many other films such as The Wild Geese, Escape from Athens, Cannonball Race, The Man Who Haunted Himself he is and always will be mostly remembered for playing James Bond who he played 7x. Since we liked him the most out of all 007´s, we wanted to commemorate him to readers of www.unitedfilm.cz in a profile where he would disclose something from the beginning of his career and where he would make close- up into the life of film star on top. Sadly, since he died, we had no option but to rely on his wonderful, funny and honest autobiography My Word is My Bond. After reading it, it is obvious he was a fair, charismatic and honest man who had much needed luck in his life, without which the actor can´t crack it.
Rudi Dolezal: There was chemistry between Freddie and me
Austrian director and music producer with Czech name Rudi Dolezal was born in Vienna on 5. 2. 1958. He was studying law, media and political science. Despite the fact he studied classical music and from 9 years of age, has been playing guitar, he always loved rock´n´roll. He started as TV reporter and freelance journalist, with Hanne Rossacher has established musical TV channel VIVA and production company DoRo Production. He worked with many top musicians, including likes of The Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen and notably with Queen and Freddie Mercury, with who he has made 32 video clips and some documents. To make an interview with Mr. Dolezal was no mean feat, since he is a busy man so in fact, it took us six months before we finally made interview via Skype.
Valerie Gobos: I am proud to say that I did not sleep my way to the top, so I did not get there quickly
American producer Valerie Gobos has Greek roots but was born and educated in Chicago. She attended art school where she befriended painting, drawing, sculpture, design and photography. She also worked as singer, dancer, model and actress, slowly working her way up to become producer. We liked that she started from scratch and learnt all ropes from bottom of the ladder to the top which is the way Tomas Baťa started his shoe company century ago. We also appreciate that she uses fair play attitude rather than dirty tactics as seems to be a norm in film business. It is very difficult to get in touch with Hollywood people and make interview with them, but she was approachable from the first e-mail. Patience brought roses and although making interview took 10 months to complete, due to her workload, she was very open and helpful and nice to talk, no pre-fabricated PR bollocks.
Very special guest at Letní filmová škola in Uherské Hradiště was Irish film director, producer and scriptwriter Jim Sheridan. He was born in Dublin on 6. 2. 1949 and since college he was involved in student´s theatre. Almost whole 80´s he stayed in Canada where he emigrated and upon his return to England, he started directing movies. His debut My Left Foot was a bull´s eye and it won two Oscars for main characters. It also started collaboration between Jim and Daniel Day-Lewis. Sheridan often portrayed Irish-British conflict or social dramas in his movies. Three Oscar nomination brought his further movie with Day-Lewis and it was called In the Name of Father. Third and so far last cooperation with aforementioned actor was called Boxer. His movies raise emotion and it was incredible to spend whole day in company of such great artist, listened to his master class and discuss his movies after screening.
Mark Wood was born in
We were really impressed with the way and effort he tries to raise awareness of climate change danger and he perfectly fits into this section because he is also Still fighting for the future. We approached him with our questions and he responded positively in return which we very much appreciate from such a busy man.
