American film director James Cameron (1954) is an extraordinary man. Despite the fact did didn´t study and art or film school, thanks to his determination, will and creativity, he learnt how to make films and directed two out of three biggest box office hits ever -Titanic and Avatar- each of them earning more them 2 billion dollars. He is a pioneer of 3D technology for which he got admiration not only from his famous mates such as Steve Spielberg but also from notable institutions. He is a holder of many patents in film technology branch. When he wanted to film difficult sequences and technology hasn´t exist yet, he simply invented, constructed and manufactured it. After the big success of Titanic, he managed to say NO to big offers from Hollywood to film blockbusters and walked off the film business for whole decade to devote his time to undersea research. He became a first man who dived onto the bottom of Mariana Trench, which is the deepest place in the ocean on this Earth. He invested his own money into projects which try to save our planet and protect the nature. With his fifth wife Suzi Amis he promotes ecology and veganism.
Nicholas Meyer - My definition of cinema is to make something visible when it is invisible
Nicholas Meyer was born in 1945 in New York City. The first film he saw was “The Beggar´s Opera” starring Laurence Olivier and he became a life- long film fan. At the age of 13, his preparation for filmmaking began with the help of his father, when he made 70 minute long film “Around the World in 80 days “, with his 8 mm camera. He studied filmmaking at the University of Iowa, from which he graduated in 1964.After return from Europe he became an associate publicist at Paramount Pictures. For the advance money he got for his first book The Love Story Story he moved to Hollywood where he started writing screenplays and novels. In 1975 he wrote a screenplay for The Seven-per-cent-solution, for which he was nominated for Academy Award for best Screenplay Adaptation. In 1979 he directed Time after Time, which became one of the most popular movies of that year. In 1982 he directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Five years later, in 1984 he directed The Day After for ABC television. It was as movie on the impact of nuclear war and was the most watched TV film in history. It was nominated for seventeen Emmys by TV academy. He later co-authored the screenplay of Star Trek IV-The Voyage Home and in 1991 he co-wrote and directed Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country. His name is also signed as screenwriter for well acclaimed film Sommersby. We really wanted to make interview with such interesting man so thanks to help of our friend Pancho Kohner and Mr.Meyer´s agent Alan Gasmer we got in touch with director himself within 24 hours and he kindly replied our questions.
Leos Carax - I think about audience as human beings not as box office mass which decides commercial success of my film
I of the most interesting guests on FebioFest 2018 who was awarded Kristian prize was French director Leos Carax. Despite the fact he was born 58 years ago (22.11.1960) his filmography is pretty modest and there are long gaps between the films. His films, many times low budget ones, were often made very quickly and were either praised by critics and audience or they flopped.Meeting this man was very unusual experience since he is bit odd.
Main star of Febiofest 2018 was a queen of French cinematography Catherine Deneuve. Although she will be 75 this year (born 22.10.1943) she is still active in making films, sometimes three a year. So far she has made over 120 films and worked with such notable directors as Luis Buňuel, Francois Truffaut of Roman Polanski. She had relationship with Roger Vadim and Marcello Mastroianni and her children, son Christian and daughter Chiara are also actors. Sometimes called Greta Garbo of French film was supposed to come for beginning of film festival but due to illness came week later for ending ceremony.
Mark Gatiss - I don´t care about ratings
One of the main stars of the FebioFest 2018 was English writer, actor and director Mark Gatiss. He earned his fame as a member of League of the Gentlemen, he is also an author of series about Sherlock Holmes and resurrected Dr.Who series. He is not hiding his sexual orientations so it was our first chance to talk with such artist not only about his screen/stage activities but also about his views.
