Roland Klick - I was film version of punk rocker, honest, myself and fucked the system
German director Roland Klick (1939) was a guest at Letní filmová škola in Uherské Hradiště. Very interesting person who wrote scripts for films he directed, he also edited them, produced and composed music for some of them. His filmography is not long, only six films, but unlike other directors he managed to shut the door behind him when German Film Institute let him down and moved on in his life.
American film director James Cameron (1954) is an extraordinary man. Despite the fact did didn´t study and art or film school, thanks to his determination, will and creativity, he learnt how to make films and directed two out of three biggest box office hits ever -Titanic and Avatar- each of them earning more them 2 billion dollars. He is a pioneer of 3D technology for which he got admiration not only from his famous mates such as Steve Spielberg but also from notable institutions. He is a holder of many patents in film technology branch. When he wanted to film difficult sequences and technology hasn´t exist yet, he simply invented, constructed and manufactured it. After the big success of Titanic, he managed to say NO to big offers from Hollywood to film blockbusters and walked off the film business for whole decade to devote his time to undersea research. He became a first man who dived onto the bottom of Mariana Trench, which is the deepest place in the ocean on this Earth. He invested his own money into projects which try to save our planet and protect the nature. With his fifth wife Suzi Amis he promotes ecology and veganism.
American actor, scriptwriter, director, singer and activist, Tim Robbins was main star of International Film Festival Karlovy Vary 2018. He deserved the Crystal Globus for Outstanding contribution to World cinematography which he received and it was obvious he really enjoyed the festival. Tim stayed there for a week, didn´t refuse the autograph requests, posed for photos and had time for fans to talk about the film. He was honest about what he thinks current films lack, what annoys him at the life in America and how humanity is evaporating from films. He was here as the main star, but didn´t have star manners on the contrary he was just like ordinary, friendly and kind man. He was unlike some other stars, which came to festival in past years and were barely seen through the barrier of bodyguards.
Lebanese born American opened a film school in Prague in 2003 along with Tomas Krasauskas from Lithuenia.Does is sound interesting to you? This guy is called Tariq Hager (1971) and he was a member of International board for student films at Zlín Film Festival 2018. We didn´t know anything about him or his school before but this project so interested us that we simply had to meet him. He turned out to be very friendly and enthusiastic guy and 30 mins spent with him was very enjoyable and pleasantly spent time.
Geoffrey Rush - I don´t want to be labelled or boxed
This actor - born in Australia in 1951- is quite big exception in today´s film business, where everybody tries to be seen and spotted and get into Hollywood no matter what. Rush prefers stage acting to film and still lives near Melbourne and firmly stands with both feet on the ground. He made acting look easy and it looked almost as by the way when he won the Academy Award for his first film Shine in 1996.The way he portrayed pianist David Helfgott was breathtaking. No wonder he collected further accolade such as BAFTA, Tony Award and Golden Globe and he became one of only 21 actors around the world who owns” the Grand Slam” of most treasured film awards. He reached his success at the later age of 45 and can play both independent, low budget movies as well as big Hollywood blockbusters. It is very pleasing fact to see big actor who can resist the smell of big bucks and rather accepts the role which doesn´t promise box office success but satisfies him artistically. Geoffrey Rush shone in movies such as Shine, King´s Speech, The Life and death of Peter Sellers, Shakespeare in love or Pirates of the Caribbean. We sent him request for autograph and questions by post and got the answer after six months.
