When we were at Zlín Film Festival, there was screening of a film called “ My name is Emily” directed by Simon Fitzmaurice. Probably it wouldn´t be anything special in flood of other films but we read that this director suffers from MND and directed his film only by using his eyes for communication. Immediately it raised our interest so we asked organizers for contact. They were sympathetic and duly obliged. Then it went pretty smoothly. Mr.Jerry Li from Visit Films put us in touch with Mr.Kathryn Kennedy who helped us with interview. Some answers were done by her, some by Simon Fitzmaurice himself. We didn´t expect it would go so smoothly and fast and thank all concerned for their effort and help.
Ivan Passer: In 60´s we supported each other, success of one paved the way for others
Ivan Passer (1933) is Czech script writer and director, member of famous Czech new wave in 60´s.He was close collaborator to Miloš Forman with who he is on friendly terms up until today. Mr.Passer was a star guest of Letní filmová škola festival in Uherské Hradiště. To meet face to face with legend like him is not every day´s treat so no doubt that every screening of his films with his presence and his master classes were packed to rafters. After being in film business for half a century, no doubt his stories were not dull.
Andrew Holmes is Canadian filmmaker who we were recommended by another director from country of Maple Leaf Jesse James Miller. It took some time since Mr. Holmes was shooting film but worth waiting for since his story is just incredible.
When we came to Zlín film festival we knew nothing about Paul Wells. Artistic director of the festival Markéta Pášmová told us he is interesting man and worth an interview. So we applied for that, hastily produced questions and waited. Within about 6 minutes we threw away our questions since what Mr.Wells told us was much more interesting than we wanted to ask him.
Turkish cinematography is not the one we would know very much about so we jumped at a chance to talk to the top Turkish actress and director Derya Durmasz at the Zlín film festival. It was really an eyes opening talk.
